We know that at least three of the notices posted contain false information.
Based on this information we can conclude that if Acorn Ridge was the trail leading to Granite Pond then the notices at Acorn Ridge, Frontage Road and Pine Cone Crest were true; and the ones at Lazy Hollow and Pepper Tree Pass were false. Therefore, Acorn Ridge was not the trail to the lake.
Following this logic, the chart below shows what can be determined about each of the five trails:
As you can see, there is only one instance in which (at least) three notices contain false information.
Hence, David was able to figure out that the only possible trail to Granite Pond was Lazy Hollow.
